I spoke to a friend (He has his own race car that he works on himself and drives on the amateur circuit), about a problem I had with the stripped holes on the brake caliper mounting bracket. He recommended that I try the Helicoil Thread Repair Kit. Before buying the kit, I also spoke to a few mechanics and hardware store folks to get other opinions. Most recommended that I just tap out the holes and use a larger bolt. The problem was that the larger bolts would not fit through the sleeve on the caliper housing. So I finally decided to give the Helicoil Thread Repair Kit a try. It worked perfectly! The instructions were easy to follow and it didn't take forever to complete. I was done with repairing the threads on the mounting bracket and had the caliper on and secured in under 30 minutes!

Used these to fix a striped out transmission pan bolt hole. I was skepitcal at first, but it save me 0's and worked as advertised. br /br /If you have taps and a good set of drill bits though, all you have to buy are the inserts. This M8x1.5 uses a 21/32 drill bit and a M10 x 1.25 tap. If you have both of these, you can buy just the inserts.
